Performance held for Kamran V's experimental series 'Space Space'
A late-night zone-out session with ominous distorted drones, dark ringing guitar chords, muted beating drum spurts, and dreamy synth samples. Recorded on August 23, 2025 at the second Ambient Harvest, this drum and guitar performance yields a diverse, hard-to-pin-down selection of music.
Held in the backyard of AKP Recordings in Los Angeles, local cannabis grower MOTA brings together their faithful to help trim the current harvest, learn about the inner workings of the cultivating process, sample the product, and enjoy a quadraphonic sound performance.The mix brings the bustling chatter of those gathered at the event into and out of the listener’s consciousness - a document of an organic, multi-sensory experience - giving it a textural depth that moves beyond a typical live recording.
For this harvest Arthur King is Matthew Mallinger on percussion/pads, KamranV on quad mixing board, and Peter Walker on guitar and drone.

Experimental Showcase at SparkHouse // Second Installation
We're running it back this month for the second ever Experimental Showcase at Sparkhouse / the old Ace Hotel! Join us Saturday, May 16th Downtown Los Angeles for an evening of experimental, ambient & jazz // a night of community and art, curated by Matthew Mallinger. David Binney, V. Ontiveros, & Matthew Mallinger + Special Guests will be performing; Visual accompaniment will be provided by Martha Colburn.The evening will take place at SparkHouse (inside of the Stile Hotel - formely the Ace) a creative hub & collective of recording studios.
David Binney is one of the most prolific jazz musicians on the scene today. Receiving praise from critics and colleagues alike, he was recently singled out by Jazz Times as one of a handful of "players who have created an alternative jazz-scene... all of whom are playing adventurous, original music." David has recorded 25+ albums as leader or co-leader and recorded on more than 400 other albums.David was born in Miami, Florida, and raised in Southern California. At the age of 19 moved to New York City and lived there for many years. He now resides in Los Angeles; producing records and performing worldwide. David was the Creator/Producer of the band that was David Bowie's Blackstar. His lush Ambient record Where Infinity Begins has been streamed close to 1,000,000 times as of this writing.
V Ontiveros is a Los Angeles–based, self-taught vocalist and musician who creates composed and improvised, interpretive vocal works rooted in her mestiza heritage and jazz influences. Her sound blends fluttering vibrato with folk-inspired melodies, drawing from pastoral traditions to evoke the beauty of the natural world. Her vocal explorations invite listeners to meditate on both the joys of nature and our shared responsibility to protect it.
'Martha Colburn is a filmmaker and artist, best known for her incomparable animation films which are created through puppetry, collage, and paint on glass techniques. She also creates installations and plays her films in tandem with live musical performance. Martha has traveled extensively exhibiting and lecturing her work. She holds a B.A. from Maryland Institute College of Art and MA equivalent from Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunst in the Netherlands.

Duplicated on-site to cassette by Kamran V, the score went home with attendees along with posters designed by Jeremy Leasure, with Qur'an Shaheed DJing sets before and after the screening.
